The three kinds of welding, and who wants which

The word "welder" hides three fairly different jobs, and knowing which one you do decides where you'll earn most.

ARC (shielded metal arc) welding is the workhorse of structural and general fabrication. It's where most people start, it's forgiving, and there's steady demand for it in fab shops and construction-linked units. MIG (gas metal arc) is faster and cleaner, used heavily in auto components, sheet-metal and volume fabrication, so if you're quick and consistent on MIG you're valuable to an auto-belt plant. TIG (gas tungsten arc) is the fine, high-quality work: thin stainless, pharma equipment, food-grade tanks, anything that gets inspected hard. TIG welders are the scarcest and paid the most, because the weld has to be clean enough to pass an X-ray, not just hold.

Most welders pick up two of the three over a few years. If you can do all three and read a fabrication drawing, you rarely stay out of work for long.

What welders earn

A welder in India averages around ₹17,700 a month, but that number hides a wide spread. An ITI fresher on ARC often starts near ₹13,000, while an experienced TIG welder in a pharma-equipment unit can clear ₹32,000, and a welding charge-hand running a bay earns more again. Shift and scarcity move the number more than anything else.

ExperienceTypical workIn-hand / month
Fresher / ITIHelper → ARC welding₹13,000–17,000
1–3 yrsMIG / ARC welder₹17,000–24,000
3–6 yrsTIG / skilled welder₹24,000–32,000
6+ yrsWelding charge-hand₹32,000–42,000

Skills and certificates that pay

Beyond the welding itself, a few things push you up the queue:

  • Drawing reading and basic fit-up. A welder who can work from a drawing without hand-holding is worth more than one who only lays a bead.
  • Grinding and finishing cleanly, because in most shops the welder owns the whole joint, not just the weld.
  • A trade certificate (ITI Welder) or a welder qualification test on a specific process and position. For pressure-vessel or pharma work, a qualified WPS/PQR test is often required.
  • Safety discipline, which matters more in chemical, pharma and heavy engineering than anywhere else.

On HiringNotice you tag the processes you run (MIG, TIG, ARC), the positions, and the materials, so an employer searching for a TIG-on-stainless welder finds you directly.

Becoming a welder, or moving up as one

You don't need a degree. Many welders come through an ITI Welder trade, others learn on the job as a helper to an experienced hand. If you're starting out, an apprenticeship at a decent fab shop is the fastest honest route in: you earn a stipend, learn on real jobs, and often get kept on. From there the ladder is clear. Add TIG to your ARC, learn to read drawings, pass a qualification test, and you move from general welder to skilled welder to charge-hand, roughly doubling your pay over a few years.

Welder jobs — FAQs

Do I need a résumé to apply for welding jobs?

No. Tap Quick apply, tell us your welding types and years of experience, verify your phone, and employers call you. A résumé is optional.

Which welding pays the most?

TIG on stainless and precision work pays the most because it's the hardest and gets inspected. MIG in the auto belt pays well for speed and consistency. ARC is the steady base.

Can a fresher get a welding job?

Yes. Helper and ARC-welding roles regularly take ITI freshers and people with a welding certificate, usually starting ₹13,000–17,000 a month. Apprenticeships are the easiest way in.

Are these welding jobs genuine?

Every employer is verified and every listing is checked before it goes live. No real job asks a worker for money. If one does, report it.
